Dr. Alecia Swasy was one of the first influential members of the Missouri Business Alert team when she was a Editor back in 2012. Although she is no longer an employee here at MBA, her influence still remains today. We asked Dr. Swasy a couple of questions regarding her time at MBA. See her answers below.

Why were you interested in working at MBA?

“I have great admiration and respect for Randy Smith so it was a pleasure to help him launch such a great learning lab/newsroom.”

What do you think MBA offers to the business community?

“Too many newspapers, of all sizes, have cut back on their business reporting staff, so MBA fills a void in offering state-wide business news.”

What skills did you learn at MBA that you still use in your daily career and/or helped you advance your career?

“I learned that launching a start-up requires a lot of work, but it’s never a dull moment.”

What is your favorite memory of working at MBA?

“I really enjoyed working with the interns on the impossible task of covering the endless list of business stories. We did a lot on a shoestring, in our $5 used chairs, but we had a lot of fun figuring it out as we went along.”

Now that MBA is 5 years old and still progressing every day, what do you hope to see for the future of MBA?

“I want to see MBA to continue to grow and prosper. I’d also like to see similar online business wires started across the country. It’s a great way to teach students about financial journalism. Congrats to Randy and the entire team for a terrific first five years!”

Thank you again, Alecia, for your contributions to MBA. You’ve helped us become the reliable business outlet that we are today.
