Missouri had the fourth-lowest cost of living in the United States for the first quarter of 2019 according to a recent report from the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center. The most expensive areas to live were Hawaii, Alaska, the Northeast and the West Coast. The least expensive areas were the Midwest and Southern states.
The same report offered a glimpse of the cost of living by city in Missouri for the first quarter. Of all the qualifying cities, the one with the lowest cost of living index was Joplin, with an index of 80.7. The city with the highest cost of living was Kansas City, with an index of 94.5.
