Missouri employers have contended with a large gap between job postings and job seekers in recent years in several industries, according to the latest Missouri Labor Supply and Demand Analysis from the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center, or MERIC. The latest analysis, published last year, features 2016 data.
The numbers show significant shortages of people seeking jobs relative to postings in health care, business and sales, and science and technology. According to the report, top jobs in these industries include registered nurses, software developers, and wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives. In addition to looking at the raw numbers in each industry, the report also suggested considering percentages to provide a better understanding of the labor market.
“Using percentages shows the share of workers looking for jobs and the share of job ads in each industry,” said Jonathan Mack, marketing manager at Missouri Department of Economic Development. “Looking at the share of long-term occupational employment projections in each group also gives a more complete look at the demand in occupation groups.”
