CHART: The US granted patent 10 million. How’s Missouri stack up?

Last week, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office marked a significant milestone in the history of American innovation: 10 million patents issued. The office issued its first patent in 1836.

In honor of the landmark, here’s a look at the number of patents issued per year since the first one in 1836.

Between 1883 and 2015, a total of 109,898 patents were issued to Missouri inventors. The origin of a patent is determined by the residence of the first inventor named on the application.
