Economic Outlook Conference

8-11 a.m. at University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center (333 South John Q. Hammons Parkway, Springfield)

Presented by the Springfield Business Development Corp., the Chamber’s economic development arm, the annual Economic Outlook Conference is Springfield’s premier forum for economic activity and forecasts. With impact-driven talks from industry experts, the conference brings together SBDC investors and prominent business and community leaders, while providing attendees with a better understanding of critical economic issues.

FastTrac NewVenture

9 a.m.-4 p.m. at SBTDC – UMKC (4747 Troost Ave., Kansas City)

In FastTrac NewVenture, a program of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation that’s brought to you by the University of Missouri-Kansas City Small Business & Technology Development Center and University of Missouri Extension, you will look at all aspects of your proposed company, exploring the feasibility of your business concept and learning how to develop a viable business plan. Participants will learn about startup issues and learn to address the competition, legal matters, marketing and financial management aspects. FastTrac participants don’t just learn about business, they work on their own business endeavors throughout the course. This program is fast-paced and energizing, using guest speakers and lots of group breakout activities.

Chiefs Kickoff Luncheon

10:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Kansas City Marriott Downtown (200 West 12th St., Kansas City)
 
Fans and members of the business community will have the opportunity to join Chiefs players to celebrate the start of the NFL season at the 2014 Chiefs Kickoff Luncheon hosted by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.
The event features the entire Kansas City Chiefs roster, including coaches, players and cheerleaders. Notable speakers will be on hand to address attendees and media, including Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, General Manager John Dorsey, Head Coach Andy Reid and KC Chamber President and CEO Jim Heeter.

Women on Corporate Boards: Does It Make A Difference?

4-5:30 p.m. at The Central Exchange (1020 Central St., Kansas City)

Does if make a difference when women serve as board members and trustees of corporate boards? The research behind this questions will be shared by Diana Stafford of the Kansas City Star. Cici Rojas will discuss the Central Exchange work in this area and their initiative with women owned business owners. Denise Kruse of Adams-Gabbert will cover observations and experiences from the local/wider community.

Operation JumpStart

9 a.m.-4 p.m. at SBTDC at Southeast Missouri State University (920 Broadway St., Cape Girardeau)

Operation JumpStart is a nationally recognized, highly successful training model for individuals considering starting or expanding a business. Participants will learn essential business planning and preparation skills such as product pricing, legal structure, competition marketing and cash flow management.
