In the race to raise funds for Missouri’s U.S. Senate election, Sen. Claire McCaskill, the Democratic incumbent, extended her lead over Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley, the top Republican challenger, in the first three months of the year.
McCaskill raised three times as much as Hawley did through the end of March and had five times as much cash on hand at that point, new finance reports show.
McCaskill raised $3.9 million from January through March and ended the period with $11.5 million on hand. Hawley raised $1.5 million, bringing his total to $2.1 million.
Hawley raised more than 70 percent of his funds in contributions of $200 or less and said McCaskill was the beneficiary of a “liberal donor base.” McCaskill’s camp cited the latest fundraising tally as evidence of “MOmentum” behind the senator.
