Petition submitted to put minimum wage hike on November ballot

Advocates for a higher minimum wage in Missouri submitted more than 120,000 signatures Wednesday seeking a November ballot initiative to increase the state’s wage floor.

The effort, led by Missouri Business for Fair Minimum Wage and Raise Up Missouri, seeks to gradually increase the minimum wage, which is currently $7.85 an hour, until it reaches $12 in 2023.

To appear on a ballot, an initiative to change a state law must get at least 100,000 signatures from registered voters in six of Missouri’s congressional districts.

Backers of the petition said they had signatures from every county in the state.
