Acquired lab operator plans to lay off 177 in Columbia

A Columbia-based operator of pathology labs that last week announced it was being acquired has now disclosed it plans to lay off 177 workers in the city.

Boyce & Bynum Pathology Laboratories plans to lay off 177 Columbia workers next year, the company said in a notice to the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

Quest Diagnostics, based in New Jersey, is acquiring Boyce & Bynum in a deal expected to close in early 2019.

Founded in Columbia in 1965, Boyce & Bynum and has 13 locations across Missouri. It did not disclose in the filing whether it plans layoffs at its other locations.
