Varsity Tutors, a tutoring service based in Clayton, has announced its acquisition of Veritas Prep, an online tutoring company based in the Los Angeles area.
Veritas is the largest privately owned test prep and admissions consulting company in the U.S, according to a press release.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Varsity Tutors officials hope the acquisition will allow them to expand their live online classes and on-demand recorded content.
“With Veritas Prep, we gain expertise in both live online classes and recorded content and courses, as well as some of the top admissions consultants and test prep instructors in the industry,” said Chuck Cohn, founder and CEO of Varsity Tutors.
Cohn started Varsity Tutors in 2007 at Washington University in St. Louis.
Since then, the company has raised $107 million in funding, including a $50 million round announced last February.
Veritas Prep was founded in 2002 with the goal of preparing students for standardized tests like the ACT and SAT. The company’s founders include Chad Troutwine, a Kansas City native and graduate of the University of Missouri law school.
