Bass Pro Shops has named a former Lowe’s executive as its new president, the Springfield-based outdoor retailer announced Friday.
Mike McDermott, who most recently was executive vice president and chief customer officer at Lowe’s, replaces Jim Hagale as president of Bass Pro. Founder Johnny Morris will remain the retailer’s chief executive.
Hagale oversaw the integration of Cabela’s after Bass Pro acquired the rival outdoor retailer. He also drew praise for leading the conversion of the Pyramid, a Memphis sports arena, into a giant Bass Pro store.
Bass Pro had several criteria for Hagale’s replacement, including retail experience with a major company and a strong financial background, according to a press release, and McDermott met all the requirements.
“The success of Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s is based on exceptional customer service, great products and highly creative marketing,” Morris said in the release. “That’s Mike’s wheelhouse.”
