The Springfield City Council approved a bill legalizing and regulating short-term rentals like Airbnb. That comes after more than a year and a half of deliberation.
Before Monday’s vote, there were more than 150 short-term rentals violating zoning ordinances in Springfield. The new ordinance distinguishes short-term rentals by three categories based on the type of residence.
Individuals looking to rent out their homes in Springfield will be required to apply for a business license or, in some cases, purchase a permit for $350.
