In an attempt to compete with streaming services, AMC Theaters has announced the launch of a digital on-demand service for members of its customer loyalty program.
The Leawood, Kansas-based company is the first cinema chain to launch a streaming service to compete with the likes of Apple, Amazon and others.
Called AMC Theatres On Demand, the service will have about 2,000 movies from major studios that can be purchased or rented. Newer titles like Disney’s “The Lion King” can be purchased for $19.99. Movies and shows will be available on AMC’s website and mobile app, Roku and smart TVs.
AMC, the world’s largest theater operator, also plans to use the service to promote streaming services offered by AMC Networks
