Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services expects to hand out medical marijuana licenses to nearly 200 dispensaries. That means close to 1,000 other aspiring dispensary operators will wind up empty handed.
A total of 2,163 applications to operate medical marijuana facilities in the state were submitted to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services as of the Aug. 19 deadline.
The department plans to license a total of 348 facilities: 192 dispensaries, 86 manufacturing facilities for infused products, 60 cultivation facilities and 10 testing laboratories.
The application period produced a flood of applications in the final few days. The department received over 1,200 applications in the final three days, including more than 800 in the final 24 hours.
The process resulted in over $13 million in application fees to the department, according to a news release.
