Cool Weather Could Put a Dent in Crops

The relatively nippy summer and the wet spring that preceded it will likely translate to lower yields as crops are weeks behind schedule, according to forecasts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“It’s September-like weather, and while we love it for how it feels, someone said to me: We need to suffer before the soybean and corn crops are in great shape,” said Emerson Nafziger, a crop sciences professor at the University of Illinois. “There’s probably something to that.”
