St. Louis has seen its number of bicycle-based food delivery services quadruple — from one to four — in less than a year.
The services work by partnering with restaurants and handling delivery orders, collecting a commission from the restaurant or a fee, usually less than $5, from the customer.
All of the companies are looking to partner with more restaurants and expand their delivery areas. And some have begun diversifying beyond food, handling deliveries for businesses like florists.
As the delivery services look to increase awareness of their existence, there’s confidence among their owners that St. Louis can support the continued growth of bike delivery industry.
“I would say at this point we’re not fighting over pieces of the pie — we’re baking a pie,” said Food Pedaler founder Tim Kiefer.
