The Missouri Legislature is dragging its feet on Medicaid expansion, generating a loss of millions of dollars every day.
Sen. Ryan Silvey, R-Kansas City, has proposed a so-called “Missouri Solution,” calling for money that would be saved under Medicaid expansion in Missouri to go into a trust fund. That trust fund could then be used if the state ever has to pay out money under the program.
Since the filing deadline for introducing new bills in Missouri has passed, Silvey’s proposal could only be included as an amendment to an existing bill.
However, neither side of the debate over Medicaid expansion is optimistic about its success. It is unlikely that Medicaid expansion will come up for a vote in the Missouri senate this session leaving the task of Medicaid expansion for next year.
