Ikea, which is building stores in Kansas City and St. Louis, plans to raise its average hourly minimum wage by 17 percent to $10.76 an hour, on average. The retailer said it will not set an across-the-board minimum wage for its stores but would set a minimum for each individual store based on the cost of living in its area. Ikea announced the new wage policy today.
The company said the new wage structure “will be a significant investment” but will not increase Ikea prices. Ikea broke ground on its new St. Louis store on Tuesday.
