Manufacturing in Kansas City region increases slightly

The manufacturing index in the region monitored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City rose to 6 in September from 3 in August, but lower than the reading of 9 in July. The index takes into account production, new orders, employment, supplier delivery time and raw materials.

A vice president and economist at the Fed said some of the gains were offset by “continued sluggish activity” among food processors that had been facing higher beef costs this year. The seven-state monitoring area includes the western third of Missouri.
