Sprint hit with federal suit over billing practices

Sprint faces a federal lawsuit alleging that the Overland Park, Kan.-based wireless provider collected millions of dollars in unauthorized charges on customers’ bills, a practice commonly referred to as cramming.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a federal agency born out of the 2008 financial crisis, brought the suit against Sprint. The suit followed reports Tuesday that, citing unnamed sources, said Sprint would face a $105 million fine from the Federal Communications Commission for cramming.
