Regulators extend Ameren’s nuclear plant license to 2044

Federal regulators have extended Ameren Missouri’s license to operate its Callaway County nuclear plant by 20 years.

Ameren’s current license would have expired in 2024. The extension by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission means the plant can remain operational until at least 2044.

The St. Louis-based utility began operating the nuclear plant in 1984, and it’s the only nuclear plant in Missouri. It supplies 1,200 megawatts of power when at full capacity, making it Ameren’s second-largest power plant.
