Lambert approves plan for international air-cargo terminal

A proposal for an international air-cargo facility at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport won unanimous approval Wednesday from the airport commission. The plan calls for the demolition of an old McDonnell-Douglas complex to construct a new terminal with ramp space for freighter aircraft.

Bi-National Gateway Terminal LLC will construct the project on 49 acres of airport land, investing about $77 million in the first of the project’s three phases.

The facility could mean cargo coming into the airport within 18 months, officials said.
