Blunt, McCaskill voice concern over St. Louis veterans health care

In a joint letter to the acting director of the VA’s St. Louis Health Care System, Missouri’s U.S. senators, Republican Roy Blunt and Democrat Claire McCaskill, voiced concern and expressed a desire to see improvement related to issues raised in a recent operations review of the system.

The review made 45 recommendations for improvement, in areas including quality management; environment of care; medication management; surgical complexity; and residential mental health rehabilitation programs.

In their letter, Blunt and McCaskill acknowledged that the acting director, Patricia Ten Haaf, is the facility’s seventh acting director in the last two years. That turnover, they wrote, “could very well be a compounding factor in the issues raised” in the review.
