A federal judge has dismissed a class-action lawsuit filed by two African-American men who said they were subjected to a pattern of racial discrimination at the Kansas City Power & Light District.

The men said they were victims of discrimination while visiting the downtown Kansas City entertainment and nightlife district in 2010 and 2011. Their case included sworn depositions from former employees in the area who said managers encouraged them to limit the number of black patrons in the district’s bars and restaurants.

The judge threw out the case on a legal technicality and because he found no direct evidence to support their claims against Cordish Companies, the Baltimore-based owner of the Power & Light District, and its affiliates.
