State school board seeks more money in case of school failures

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education plans to ask the state legislature for more money to prepare for the possibility of additional school districts failing.

This follows the Normandy School District losing its accreditation, a development for which members of the state Board of Education say the state was ill prepared.

Deputy Education Commissioner Ron Lankford wants to enhance preparedness by asking the Missouri Legislature to fund the Missouri School Improvement Program’s support and intervention plan, which the Legislature has opted not to fund the past two sessions.
