Gov. Nixon misses mark with comment on I-70 improvements

The search for money to fund Missouri infrastructure improvements has Governor Jay Nixon open to the idea of turning a 200-mile stretch along I-70 into a toll road.

At the Missouri State Fair’s annual Governor’s Ham Breakfast on August 20, Nixon shared his thoughts on turning I-70 into a toll road and answered questions from reporter. In response to one question, Nixon said about “nine out of every 10 pennies” that would come from the toll road would be spent by non-Missourians.

Scott Holste, Nixon’s press secretary, provided a Missouri Department of Transportation report that included traffic figures for the state, but none of them seemed to support the claim specifically.
