Masayoshi Son, the principal owner and chairman of Sprint, has purchased a home in the Kansas City area in a move Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure is hailing as a sign of Son’s commitment to the Overland Park, Kan.-based wireless provider.
Son, the founder of Japanese telecom company SoftBank, considered selling Sprint after his plan to acquire T-Mobile and merge the companies fell through. He has since indicated he is not interested in selling Sprint.
Son lives in Japan and owns another home in California, where meetings between Sprint and SoftBank officials have previously been held. However, he has begun spending more time at Sprint’s Kansas City-area headquarters.
