Neal Patterson, chairman and CEO of Cerner Corp., announced Monday that he has been diagnosed with cancer and plans to begin treatment immediately.
In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Patterson wrote a letter to shareholders and employees notifying them of the soft tissue cancer diagnosis.
“I wanted to let you know that, just after the new year, I was diagnosed with a soft tissue cancer,” Patterson wrote. “My physician says the type of cancer I have is treatable and curable, and there is no evidence of cancer elsewhere in my body. I plan to begin treatment immediately.”
Patterson, a founder of the North Kansas City-based health care information technology company, wrote that he plans to stay involved in the business but will travel less and attend fewer meetings. The firm’s current leadership structure, he said, is “well equipped” to run the day-to-day operation.
