Virgin Mobile USA will hire up to 100 people at its new headquarters in downtown Kansas City, the company announced Wednesday. This is double the number of jobs Virgin pledged to create in July when it announced it would move its headquarters to Missouri.
Virgin Mobile will occupy 11,000-square-feet for its headquarters at One Kansas City Place, which has been under renovation to prepare for the company’s move-in this summer.
The company currently employs 27 full-time workers at its Kansas City office and plans to hire 33 more by the first half of this year.
Virgin Mobile also qualified for $1.87 million in tax incentives under the Missouri Works program if the company hires 84 new positions over the next five years.
“We are proud of our role, as well as our Missouri partners’, in attracting the headquarters of Virgin Mobile to Kansas City,” Kansas City Area Development Council CEO Tim Cowden said in the release. “Virgin Mobile seriously considered several major metro areas for its headquarters, but we made the case through a strong entrepreneurial and tech community along with vibrant livability, proving that Kansas City was the best choice.”
