A new era of men’s basketball at the University of Missouri has begun with the hire of former California coach Cuonzo Martin, whose previous stops include a stint at Missouri State from 2008 to 2011.
Missouri confirmed the hire of its 19th men’s basketball coach in a release Wednesday.
ESPN reported that Martin’s deal is seven years for a total of a little more than $21 million, but Missouri has yet to release contract details.
Missouri Athletics Director Jim Sterk, making his first head-coaching hire since arriving in Columbia, identified the potential Martin, a native of East St. Louis Illinois, brings to Missouri basketball. The program has endured three years of losing on the court and poor attendance at games.
