Third upstart joins batch of breweries looking to launch in Springfield

Three new breweries are now in the works in Springfield, although the latest addition to the city’s brewery batch is still working to secure financing and pick a location.

Prehistoric Brewing Company would join two other breweries — 4 by 4 Brewing Company and Tie & Timber Beer Company — set to open in Springfield in the coming months.

Springfield resident Charley Norton, 33, and Willard resident Keith Davis, 34, want to raise $650,000 to open Prehistoric Brewing. They hope to finance it by selling shares for 49 percent of the company to individual investors.

The two began discussing the possibility of opening a brewery in 2010, but they were unsure if Springfield could support such an operation. They watched closely as Mother’s Brewing Company launched in 2011.

The trio of breweries now in the works would join four breweries already operating in Springfield.
