KC’s Lean Lab welcomes five new ed tech startups



The Lean Lab, a Kansas City-based education technology accelerator, is returning for its fourth year with a new approach that aims to be more community-focused and sophisticated.

During a Tuesday event, the Lean Lab announced the five new startups in its 2017 cohort:

  • VitalSt. Louis
  • Diversity Talks, Providence, R.I.
  • Explorable PlacesNew York, N.Y.
  • H3TV,  Kansas City
  • Transportant, Kansas City

The program is split into three modules, the first one beginning Aug. 9.

Katie Boody, Lean Lab co-founder, said that this year’s application pool was the most competitive to date. The accelerator received applications from 32 different cities from around the U.S., with demographics representative of the national student population.

Applications were 48 percent men, 52 percent women and 53 percent people of color.
