T-shirts, bobbleheads and other knick-knacks adorned with President Donald Trump’s name and likeness were on sale Monday in Springfield, as vendors tried to cash in on the president’s upcoming visit to southwest Missouri.
Vendor Whitey Taylor stood behind a van that drove in from Virginia and let customers come to him to peruse his wares. Folded shirts (such as “Obama played the race card. Hillary played the woman card. America played the Trump card”) were placed on one side of the van. On the other side rested a lifesize image of the president with two thumbs up.
Trump will visit Springfield on Wednesday to talk about tax reform at an invite-only appearance at the Loren Cook Company. As was the case when now-Vice President Mike Pence campaigned in Springfield in September 2016, the city can expect to see more merchandise sellers.
