The St. Louis Zoo Association, the nonprofit partner that oversees the zoo’s fundraising, has announced plans to purchase 425 acres in North St. Louis County. The move would nearly quadruple the zoo’s footprint, enabling possibilities like expanded programs for endangered animals and “safaris” for visitors to watch animals graze.
The association plans to buy the land for $7.1 million from the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562. Money for the purchase came from two anonymous donors.
Due diligence will be conducted in the next few months, with HBD Construction supervising the process.
