Justice Department seeks more information in Cigna-Express Scripts deal

The U.S. Department of Justice has requested additional information from Cigna and Express Scripts in the health insurer’s planned acquisition of the St. Louis County-based pharmacy benefits manager, Cigna announced Monday in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The request comes as the Justice Department is increasing its scrutiny of s0-called vertical deals between companies that aren’t direct competitors.

The effect of the request is the extension of a waiting period around the proposed deal, according to the filing.

Both companies still expect to secure regulatory approval by year’s end, Cigna said in the filing.
