Plans in place to build, lease on long-dormant KC mall site

Leasing efforts are underway for the long-undeveloped Mission Gateway site in suburban Kansas City, and local officials say building permits could follow soon.

The 16-acre plot has remained barren since developers razed the Mission Mall there in 2005.

The first phase of the new build calls for mixed-use development with about 170 apartments and first-floor retail.

The second phase would include two hotels and a parking garage.

The third phase would feature a 75,000-square-foot office building and a food hall building.
