Lime, a company that runs app-based sharing services for bicycles, scooters and e-bikes — and that just debuted its bicycle service in St. Louis — is eyeing more ambitious aims in urban mobility.
The California-based company is developing a new vehicle it’s calling a “transit pod.” The pod, which would resemble a small car or large golf cart, is being envisioned as capable of transporting one or two people at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.
Like Lime’s bikes and scooters, the pod would be accessible using the company’s mobile app.
According to Brad Bao, the company’s co-founder and chairman, the pod represents an improvement over traditional automobiles, which are more than what’s needed for the majority of urban transit.
