Bass Pro Shops is the second hottest retailer in the world, according to the Hot 100 Retailers report published by STORES, the National Retail Federation’s magazine.
Bass Pro, the Springfield-based outdoor sports retailer, has made regular appearances on the hot retailers list, but it surged to No. 2 in 2018 after acquiring Cabela’s, the Nebraska-based chain that used to be its biggest rival.
The rankings were based on companies’ year-over-year domestic sales growth. Bass Pro’s sales grew by 94 percent during the period measured, increasing to $7.8 billion.
Primark, an Ireland-based clothing and fashion brand that opened its first U.S. store in 2015, was the only store to rank ahead of Bass Pro. Primark grew by 104 percent in a year, with $9.8 billion in sales.
Build.com, Amazon and Wayfair rounded out the top five on the list.
Bass Pro isn’t the only Missouri retailer to make the list. O’Reilly Auto Parts of Springfield and Cosentinos Food Stores of Kansas City ranked No. 90 and 91, respectively.
