St. Louis University announced Thursday that it raised a record $98.7 million during its 2018 fiscal year, which ended June 30.
That surpassed the $65 million SLU raised in fiscal 2006 as the largest fundraising haul in the university’s 200-year history, the school said.
A total of 14,805 donors contributed to that total.
The Jesuit university said 11 gifts exceeded $1 million. One of them was a $15 million gift from businessman Richard A. Chaifetz and his wife, Jill, in support of the University’s Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business, which was renamed in his honor in February.
Most gifts went to support academic programs, patient care, student scholarships and financial aid, the university said. SLU’s Go Further initiative, through which the university matches every scholarship gift dollar-for-dollar, raised more than $39.5 million in matching dollars since its launch five years ago.
