Antitrust regulators at the U.S. Department of Justice are preparing to approve Cigna’s $54 billion purchase of Express Scripts, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter.
The deal between Cigna, the Connecticut-based health insurer, and Express Scripts, the St. Louis County-based pharmacy benefits manager, could receive formal approval within the next few weeks, according to The Journal.
Cigna and Express Scripts could win approval without having to shed any assets, according to the report.
Businesses and consumer advocates have been watching the process closely for signals of how Trump administration appointees within the Justice Department are handling mergers.
Also Wednesday, The Journal reported CVS Health’s acquisition of health insurer Aetna is nearing regulatory approval.
