CHART: Comparing Missouri’s state revenue and Medicaid spending



State-funded Medicaid spending in Missouri reached 21.7 percent of the state’s revenue in fiscal year 2016, according to a recent report from the Pew Charitable Trusts.

Missouri was one of the eight states spending more than one-fifth of its own revenue on Medicaid in 2016. New York had the largest such share, 27.0 percent.

Missouri‚Äôs share rose 7.3 percentage points between 2000 and 2016, marking the sixth-fastest growth in a state’s share of Medicaid spending over that time.
