Missouri Senate Considers Term Changes



The Missouri Senate is considering a proposal calling to extend the term limits of lawmakers. Members of the House and Senate can currently serve eight years in one chamber; the proposal calls for a limit of 16 years.

Rep. Myron Neth, R-Liberty, told senators that his proposal would allow members who accumulate expertise to keep their seniority rather than trying to move to the other chamber. The House passed Neth’s proposed change last month on a vote of 121-31. If passed by the Senate, it would be submitted to state voters on the November 2014 general election ballot.
