Koster Strikes Agreement On Odor, Fire Control At St. Louis-Area Landfills

Attorney General Chris Koster and the owner of the Bridgeton and West Lake landfills reached an agreement that would improve odors and prevent an underground fire from reaching radioactive material. The agreement is part of Koster’s pending lawsuit against the landfill owner Republic Services for violating environmental laws.

The underground fire at the Bridgeton landfill has been going on for three years, and it has raised concerns over toxins released into the air, and the proximity to nuclear waste at West Lake.
