House Speaker Jones backs conservative causes with excess campaign funds

When Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones announced he wouldn’t run for a statewide office in 2016, his campaign committee had more than $993,000 in its coffers. But Jones said he plans to deploy those funds in support of “conservative causes and conservative candidates.”

The Missouri Ethics Commission shows Missourians for Tim Jones in the last month has contributed $10,500 to Representative Rick Stream’s campaign for St. Louis County Executive, which Stream narrowly lost, and donated $7,500 to the House Republican Campaign Committee.

Jones said he plans to keep some funds in reserve for a potential campaign of his own in the future, but he said he has no plans at the moment to run in 2018 or beyond.
