Poll could determine direction of marijuana legalization push

A poll of Missouri residents be conducted over the next week or so could determine whether a measure to legalize marijuana in the state appears on the 2016 ballot.

The Missouri secretary of state’s office has approved two initiative petitions that aim to amend the state’s constitution to legalize production, use, sale and distribution of marijuana.

The results of the upcoming poll may dictate whether those petitions are circulated, or if a proposal with a narrower focus — like legalizing medicinal marijuana — is promoted instead for 2016.
