Parson bows out of governor’s race, will run for lieutenant governor

State Sen. Mike Parson has withdrawn his name from the crowded field of contestants for Missouri’s 2016 Republican gubernatorial nomination and will instead run for lieutenant governor.

Parson, from Bolivar, said in a post on Twitter that the move “will give a better path to win real reform for Missouri and promote Positive Politics.”

The only other declared candidate for lieutenant governor is Bev Randles, a Kansas City attorney who has received a $1 million campaign donation from St. Louis businessman and megadonor Rex Sinquefield.

Five Republicans have declared their candidacy for governor, and at least one more is expected to enter the race.
