Officials from three St. Louis business groups have formed a new economic development alliance for the region. Civic Progress, the Regional Business Council and the St. Louis Regional Chamber on Thursday announced the launch of the St. Louis Regional Economic Development Alliance. It will be a subsidiary of the chamber.
The goal of the group is attract and retain businesses, jobs and talent in St. Louis. Steve Johnson, CEO of the Missouri Partnership since 2015, has been named the chief executive of the new group and is expected to begin in March.
The organization will start with a staff of six or seven people from the chamber’s economic development staff. It aims to grow to a staff of 15.
The formation of the alliance comes after the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership parted ways with CEO Sheila Sweeney after reports of contracts awarded to political donors and allegations of staff turnover and low morale.
