Missouri Unemployment Rate Rises

Missouri’s unemployment rate rose to 7.1 percent in July, up from 6.9 percent in June and 6.8 percent in May, but still lower than the national average for July, which was 7.4 percent.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said the jobless rate in Kansas last month rose to 5.9 percent from the 5.8 percent reported in June and higher than May’s 5.7 percent. The trend reflected a drop in the size of the state’s civilian labor force and a rise in the number of unemployed workers. Nationally, the labor department said, 28 states had July increases in their unemployment rates. Eight had decreases and 14 had no change.
