St. Louis Faces More Subpar Job Growth, SLU Economist Says

St. Louis University economist David Rapach predicts the St. Louis metro-area will add about 10,000 jobs this year. That’s a growth rate of 0.8 percent, which is an increase from the 0.6 percent the city saw last year. However, it still leaves St. louis behind the nation, which Rapasch expects to experience 1.8 percent growth this year.

St. Louis remains below its peak employment level of 53,100 from January 2008. If growth remains at its current rate, the area will not again reach its former employment high until late 2018.
