Missouri metro unemployment climbs in June, still below 2013 level

The unemployment rate in all of Missouri’s metropolitan areas increased from May to June, but those rates have fallen compared to June of 2013, according to new numbers released Wednesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Approximately 6.6 percent of Missouri’s labor force was unemployed in June, up from 6.1 percent in May and down from 6.9 percent in June of 2013, the government agency reported.

Missouri’s labor force has grown slightly in the past 12 months, up to 3,077,300 from 3,072,700, on the strength of increases in St. Louis, Springfield and Columbia. Kansas City employers had 10,000 fewer workers on their payrolls in June than a year ago.
