The tax burden on businesses in Missouri is among the lowest in the nation, according to a report released Wednesday.

Missouri ranks No. 8 among the 50 states and the District of Columbia for business income that goes toward state and local taxes, according to Michigan-based consulting firm Anderson Economics Group, LLC.

The firm’s report said Missouri had a tax burden of about 7.7 percent in 2012. That’s slightly higher than the state’s 7.6 percent tax burden that Missouri registered in 2011.

Oregon had the lowest tax burden, about 5.1 percent. Alaska had the highest, at 24.4 percent.
